Getting around

Fly into Palm Beach International (PBI), 10 minutes from the island, or take the Brightline train from Miami (70 min), Fort Lauderdale or Orlando. A car helps for the mainland, but the island itself is best by bike: rentals are everywhere and the Lake Trail is flat and shady. Rideshare covers nights out on Clematis Street.

Safety

Palm Beach is one of America's safest communities, with vigilant policing. Real concerns are environmental: rip currents at the beach (swim near lifeguards), strong sun year-round, and hurricane season from June to November, peaking August to October. Traffic on the bridges clogs in season; factor it into dinner reservations.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time to visit Palm Beach?

November to April: dry, sunny days of 22-27°C and the full social season. January to March is peak with top hotel prices. Summer brings heat, humidity, afternoon storms and hurricane risk, but hotel rates drop 40-60% and the beaches empty out.

How many days do you need in Palm Beach?

Two to three days covers the island: a beach morning, the Flagler Museum, Worth Avenue and a Lake Trail bike ride, plus an evening on Clematis Street in West Palm. Add a fourth day for golf, the Norton Museum or a day trip to Jupiter's lighthouse or the Everglades.

Is Palm Beach or West Palm Beach better to stay in?

Palm Beach island for beachfront resorts, quiet elegance and walking to Worth Avenue; West Palm for nightlife, museums, the Brightline station and hotels at half the price. They're connected by three bridges, five minutes apart, so mixing both in one trip is effortless.

Can you visit Palm Beach on a budget?

It's pricey but possible. Stay in West Palm Beach or Lake Worth, hit the free public beaches and Lake Trail, tour the Four Arts gardens and window-shop Worth Avenue without buying. Splurge selectively: one Breakers cocktail or a stone crab lunch, then eat at mainland taco and seafood shacks.

Are Palm Beach beaches open to the public?

Yes. All Florida beaches are public below the high-tide line, and Palm Beach has several public access points including Midtown Beach near Worth Avenue and the Municipal Beach. Parking is metered and limited in season, so bike or arrive before 10am.

How do you get from Miami to Palm Beach?

The Brightline train is the slickest option: Miami to West Palm Beach in about 70 minutes with wifi and a bar car, from around $15 to $40. Driving up I-95 takes 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic. Tri-Rail is the budget alternative at a few dollars but slower.

What is the Breakers and can non-guests visit?

The Breakers is the island's 1896 Italian Renaissance landmark resort, built by Henry Flagler. Non-guests can visit the lobby, shops and public restaurants including the Seafood Bar, and can book spa treatments or Sunday brunch. It's the easiest way to experience the Gilded Age interior without a $900 room.
