- Scenic Road walkway along the bluffs, dotted with whimsical benches
Getting around
Fly into Monterey Regional Airport (MRY), 10 minutes away, or San Jose (SJC), 75 minutes north. Carmel village is entirely walkable, park once and explore on foot. You'll want a car for 17-Mile Drive, Point Lobos, and Big Sur day trips. Free parking is available in the village's two public lots.
Safety
Carmel is extremely safe. Ocean safety is the main concern, the beach has strong rip currents and cold water, so wade rather than swim. Summer fog ('June gloom') keeps the coast cool; bring layers year-round. Point Lobos parking fills early on weekends.
