Getting around

The Doha Metro is fast, spotless and cheap, linking the airport, West Bay, Msheireb and key sights. Taxis (Karwa) and Uber/Careem are affordable for everything off the metro. Walking works within districts like the Corniche, souq and Msheireb, but the city is spread out, so plan to ride between them. A rental car or tour is needed for the Inland Sea desert.

Safety

Qatar is one of the safest countries in the world, with negligible violent crime; solo travellers, including women, are very comfortable. Dress modestly in public (shoulders and knees covered), more so at religious sites. Alcohol is available only in licensed hotel bars and restaurants, and public drinking is illegal. Summer heat is extreme (often 45°C+), so plan outdoor time for early morning or evening from June to September.
