- The Muttart Conservatory's glass pyramids, each a different climate biome by the river.
- The Alberta Legislature grounds and their wading pools in summer, skating in winter.
- Whyte Avenue's Saturday Old Strathcona Farmers' Market, running year-round.
- The 100 Street Funicular viewpoint for a free panorama over the valley.
Getting around
The LRT connects downtown, the university and south Edmonton for about C$3.50 a ride, and downtown plus Whyte Avenue are walkable in themselves. A car is useful for West Edmonton Mall, Fort Edmonton and day trips, though buses and rideshares cover most of it. Edmonton International Airport is 30 to 40 minutes south; the 747 bus is about C$5 and rideshares C$45 to $60.
Safety
Edmonton is generally safe, with downtown and Whyte Avenue busy well into the evening, especially in festival season. Some downtown blocks and LRT stations feel rougher late at night, so use rideshares after last call. Winter is the real hazard: temperatures can drop below -30C, so proper layers, boots and limited exposure time matter.
