Getting around
Everything on the water happens by longtail boat, hired at the Nyaung Shwe jetty for $18 to $25 for a full day split between passengers. On land, bicycles cost about $1.50 a day and are the best way to reach Khaung Daing or Maing Thauk. Heho airport is a 45-minute taxi from Nyaung Shwe, roughly $25.
Safety
Check your government's current travel advice for Myanmar before booking, as the political situation is unstable and insurance may not apply. Inle itself has remained calm and crime against visitors is rare. Bring cash in pristine US dollars or kyat, as card payments and ATMs are unreliable. Boats get very cold and wet in the early morning.
