Trains from Ernakulam Junction reach Alleppey in 1.5 hours. Hire a car with driver for Munnar (4 hours) or multi-stop Kerala loops.

Safety

Kochi is among India's more relaxed and tourist-comfortable cities. Standard precautions apply: agree auto fares or insist on the meter, watch for inflated antique prices in Jew Town, and be cautious swimming, as currents are strong. Monsoon (June-September) brings heavy rain. Dress modestly, and women travellers generally report feeling comfortable in Fort Kochi's café scene.
