Hidden gems

  • Craft cocktails and murals in the Arts District (18b), far from the Strip crowds.
  • Sunrise at Red Rock Canyon before the heat and the tour buses.
  • The Neon Museum boneyard, where retired Vegas signs go to glow.
  • Local eats in Chinatown's Spring Mountain Road, the best-value dining in the city.

Getting around

The Strip is walkable but deceptively long, distances between resorts take far longer on foot than they look, so use the monorail, the Deuce bus, rideshare or the resort trams between properties. For Red Rock, Hoover Dam or the Grand Canyon you'll want a rental car or an organised tour. Casino floors are designed to disorient, so give yourself extra time to navigate them.

Safety

The Strip and Fremont Street are heavily policed and generally safe, even late, but they attract pickpockets, scammers and aggressive street performers, so keep your belongings close and be wary of 'free' photo and CD hustles. Watch your alcohol intake and pace yourself in the desert heat. Venture beyond tourist zones with normal big-city caution.
