Getting around
A car is the most practical way to get around Naples, as the beaches, shopping districts, gardens and the Everglades and Marco Island day trips are spread out. Old Naples, the pier, Fifth Avenue South and Third Street form a walkable, bike-friendly cluster once you're there, and rideshare works for dining and nights out. But to combine the beaches with the nature areas and barrier islands, you'll want a car for the flexibility.
Safety
Naples is one of the safest cities in Florida, with low crime and an upscale, relaxed feel, so normal precautions are sufficient. The main risks are environmental: protect against the strong sun, stay hydrated, watch for rip currents and heed beach flags when swimming. Hurricane season runs June to November, so monitor forecasts in late summer, and take sensible care with wildlife, including alligators, in the Everglades and waterways.
