Getting around
OKC is spread out and a car is the practical choice, with cheap and plentiful parking. Downtown, Bricktown and Midtown link via the free-to-cheap OKC Streetcar loop, and Bricktown itself is walkable along the canal. Uber and Lyft cover the city for $8 to $18 a hop. Will Rogers airport is 15 minutes southwest of downtown.
Safety
Downtown, Bricktown, Midtown, the Paseo and Automobile Alley are comfortable, and the main precaution is not leaving valuables visible in a parked car. Property crime is above the national average in outlying areas, so stick to the districts above at night. Weather is the genuine hazard: OKC sits in Tornado Alley with a spring peak from April to June, so enable phone weather alerts and know your hotel's shelter plan. Summer heat regularly passes 38C, and ice storms can shut roads in winter.
