Como se deslocar
Kaohsiung's metro (MRT) and circular light rail cover nearly everything, with fares under $1.50 and EasyCard accepted. The high-speed rail arrives at Zuoying, 15 minutes by MRT from the centre; the airport sits on the MRT too. The Cijin ferry runs every few minutes and takes five. Taipei is 1.5 to 2 hours north by high-speed rail, making Kaohsiung an easy add-on.
Segurança
Kaohsiung is extremely safe, even late at night in night markets, with very low crime. Watch scooters when crossing roads and keep an eye on belongings in crowded markets. Summers are very hot and humid with typhoon risk from July to September. Taiwan sits in an earthquake zone; modern buildings are built for it, but know basic drill steps.
Perguntas frequentes
Is Kaohsiung worth visiting?
Yes, especially if you like Taipei but want something more relaxed. The Pier-2 art district, Lotus Pond temples, Cijin Island and huge night markets make it a great two-day stop, and it's the natural base for Kenting or Fo Guang Shan.
How many days do you need in Kaohsiung?
Two to three. Day one: Pier-2, Hamasen and a Love River evening. Day two: Lotus Pond in the morning and Cijin Island in the afternoon. Add a third for Fo Guang Shan or a Kenting beach extension.
How do you get from Taipei to Kaohsiung?
The high-speed rail runs Taipei to Zuoying (Kaohsiung) in 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours, with trains every 20 to 30 minutes. Book a few days ahead for discounts; standard tickets bought same-day are fine outside holidays.
Which night market is best in Kaohsiung?
Ruifeng Night Market is the local favourite, bigger and more varied, open Tuesday and Thursday to Sunday. Liuhe Night Market is central, open nightly and tourist-friendlier, famous for seafood and papaya milk. Do both if you have two nights.
Is Kaohsiung safe?
Very. Taiwan consistently ranks among Asia's safest destinations, and Kaohsiung's night markets and metro feel comfortable at all hours. Standard big-city awareness applies, plus sun and heat protection in summer.
When is the best time to visit Kaohsiung?
October to April, when the south is dry, sunny and warm rather than scorching. Summer (June-September) is hot, humid and typhoon-prone. Winter evenings can be breezy by the harbour, so pack a light layer.
Can you visit Cijin Island easily?
Yes. The Gushan ferry pier is a short walk from Hamasen, ferries run every few minutes, the crossing takes five minutes and costs under a dollar with an EasyCard. Rent a bike on arrival for the coastal path to the lighthouse and beach.
