Moab is a small Utah town wedged between two national parks and a state park, surrounded by the largest concentration of red-rock arches, canyons and slickrock on Earth. It's the world capital of mountain biking and off-roading, and the jumping-off point for Arches, Canyonlands and the Colorado River.

Como se deslocar
A car is essential; the parks are 10 to 40 minutes from town with no shuttles. Arches requires a timed-entry reservation from April through October, booked months ahead. Rent bikes, UTVs or Jeeps in town rather than bringing your own. Fly into Grand Junction (90 min) or Salt Lake City (4 hours).
Segurança
Moab's dangers are environmental: summer heat over 38°C, dehydration, flash floods in slot canyons and cliff edges with no railings. Carry a gallon of water per person per day, start hikes at dawn, check the forecast before entering any canyon, and tell someone your route. Cell coverage vanishes outside town.
Perguntas frequentes
How many days do you need in Moab?
Three full days minimum: one for Arches, one for Canyonlands Island in the Sky plus Dead Horse Point, and one for biking, rafting or a 4x4 trail. Four or five days lets you add a second morning in Arches and a bigger adventure like the Whole Enchilada ride or a Westwater float.
Do you need reservations for Arches National Park?
Yes, from early April through early October, Arches requires a timed-entry ticket in addition to the park pass. Tickets release months ahead on Recreation.gov and a small batch drops at 7pm the night before. Entry before 7am or after 4pm needs no ticket, which is also when the light is best.
What is the best time of year to visit Moab?
March to May and September to October, with daytime highs of 18-30°C and cold nights. Summer regularly tops 38°C and the parks are busiest; winter is empty and cheap with possible snow on the red rock, which photographs beautifully but closes some activities.
Is Moab good for non-bikers?
Absolutely. Hiking, scenic drives, rafting, jet boats, horseback riding and stargazing fill days without touching a bike. Arches alone has trails from 15-minute walks to the full Devil's Garden loop, and scenic byways 128 and 279 deliver the scenery from your car window.
Where should you stay in Moab?
Downtown motels and vacation rentals keep you walking distance from restaurants; riverside campgrounds on Highway 128 are the scenic pick but book out months ahead. BLM campgrounds are first-come and cheap. In peak season, book lodging before you book park tickets.
Can you see both Arches and Canyonlands in one day?
You can, but it's rushed. A workable version: Mesa Arch at sunrise in Canyonlands, back through town, then Arches from mid-afternoon through sunset at the Windows. It's far better to give each park its own day, since Arches alone rewards a full sunrise-to-dark visit.
Is Moab crowded?
In spring and fall, yes: trails, restaurants and Arches' entrance road all back up by mid-morning. Beat it by entering parks before 7am, hiking secondary trails like Corona Arch or Fisher Towers, and booking everything, hotels, tours, entry tickets, well in advance. Winter has no crowds at all.
