Como se deslocar
Paphos has its own international airport 15 minutes from the harbour, with budget flights across Europe. Buses link the harbour, old town, Coral Bay and Polis cheaply, but frequencies drop off the main strip, so most visitors hire a car for the Akamas, Troodos and mountain villages. Driving is on the left. Kato Paphos itself is flat and walkable along the seafront promenade.
Segurança
Paphos is very safe with low crime; the real hazards are environmental. Summer heat pushes past 35°C and the sun is fierce even in spring, so hydrate and use shade. Sea urchins and slippery rocks line many beaches, so bring water shoes. Do not cross into the northern part of the island except via official crossing points, and note that rental cars usually cannot cross at all.
Perguntas frequentes
How many days do you need in Paphos?
Four to seven days is ideal. Two days cover the archaeological park, Tombs of the Kings and the harbour, then add a Blue Lagoon boat trip, a Troodos mountain day, Aphrodite's Rock and Coral Bay beach time. Paphos rewards a slow, beach-plus-history rhythm.
Is Paphos good for beaches?
Yes, though the best sand is outside the centre. Coral Bay has the most popular family beach, while the Akamas peninsula, including the Blue Lagoon and Lara Bay, has the clearest water. Municipal Beach and the Kato Paphos strip are convenient but rockier. Bring water shoes for sea urchins.
When is the best time to visit Paphos?
April to June and September to November offer warm seas, 24 to 30°C days and reasonable prices. July and August are very hot at 33°C plus and busiest. Winter is mild at 17 to 20°C, too cool for most swimmers but excellent for hiking the Akamas and sightseeing without crowds.
Is Paphos safe for solo travellers?
Yes, Paphos is one of the safest resort areas in the Mediterranean with very low crime. Solo female travellers report feeling comfortable even at night in the harbour area. Standard precautions apply: watch drinks in bars, use licensed taxis, and respect the strong sun and rocky shorelines.
Do you need a car in Paphos?
Not for the town itself: Kato Paphos is walkable and buses cover Coral Bay, the old town and Polis. But a car transforms the trip, unlocking the Akamas peninsula, Troodos villages, monasteries and wineries. Rentals are good value, and Cyprus drives on the left like the UK.
Is Paphos expensive?
It is mid-range for Europe. Budget $90 to $160 a day. The archaeological park costs about 4.50 euros, a full meze dinner 18 to 25 euros per person, Blue Lagoon boat trips from 20 euros, and shoulder-season hotels are excellent value. Prices peak in July and August.
Can you visit the north of Cyprus from Paphos?
Yes, via official crossing points such as Ledra Street in Nicosia, about 1 hour 45 minutes away. Most nationalities just show a passport at the line. However, hire cars from the Republic usually are not insured across the border, so go by tour or public transport to Nicosia and walk across.
