Portland, United States: Guia de viagem
Craft beer, food carts and forest trails inside the city limits.
- Melhor época: June-September
- Orçamento diário: $120 to $300 USD
- Duração ideal: 3 to 5 days
Portland runs on food carts, coffee and an unreasonable number of breweries, wrapped in a city where you can hike an old-growth forest without leaving the metro area. It is proudly odd, easy to navigate by bike or light rail, and the Columbia River Gorge waterfalls are 30 minutes away.

O que comer
- A whole meal assembled from three different food carts for under $15
- Voodoo Doughnut's bacon maple bar, if only to say you did
- Farm-to-table Pacific Northwest dinner on Division Street
- A flight at one of 70-plus breweries, starting with an IPA
Como se deslocar
The MAX light rail links the airport to downtown in 40 minutes for $2.80. The central city is flat and bike-friendly, with Biketown share bikes everywhere. Streetcars and buses fill the gaps. You only need a car for the Gorge, Mount Hood or the coast; rent one for the day rather than the whole trip.
Segurança
Portland is generally safe, but parts of downtown and Old Town have visible homelessness and property crime, so lock cars and don't leave anything visible inside. Stick to lit, busier streets at night. The real hazards are outdoors: wet trails, cold river water and changeable Gorge weather. Carry a rain layer whatever the forecast says.
Perguntas frequentes
How many days do you need in Portland?
Three days covers the neighbourhoods, food carts, Powell's and a park hike. Add a fourth for the Columbia River Gorge or Mount Hood, and a fifth if you want the Oregon coast at Cannon Beach. Portland rewards slow mornings, so don't over-schedule.
What is Portland best known for?
Craft beer, with more breweries than almost any city on Earth, plus food carts, coffee culture, Powell's Books and easy access to nature. Its 'Keep Portland Weird' slogan captures the city's fondness for the offbeat, from naked bike rides to vacuum museums.
When is the best time to visit Portland?
June to September is dry, warm and sunny, with roses in bloom and outdoor festivals most weekends. October to May is the rainy season: grey and drizzly, but hotels are cheaper, breweries are cosy and the Gorge waterfalls run at full power.
Is Portland expensive?
Mid-range by US standards. There's no sales tax in Oregon, which helps. Budget $120 to $180 a day: food cart meals run $8 to $14, a pint $6 to $8, mid-range hotels $140 to $220. A car-free trip saves $50 a day on parking and rental.
Is Portland safe for tourists?
Yes for most visitors, though downtown and Old Town have visible homelessness and some petty theft, especially car break-ins. Take standard precautions, avoid leaving anything in your car, and favour busy areas at night. The residential east side neighbourhoods feel relaxed day and night.
Can you visit Portland without a car?
Easily. MAX light rail serves the airport and most districts, streetcars loop the centre, and the city is one of America's most bike-friendly. Only the Gorge, Mount Hood and coast need wheels, and guided day tours cover all three if you'd rather not rent.
What day trips should you take from Portland?
The Columbia River Gorge with Multnomah Falls is the classic, 30 to 60 minutes east. Mount Hood offers year-round snow and Timberline Lodge. Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock on the coast are 90 minutes west. Willamette Valley wine country, with hundreds of pinot noir wineries, starts 45 minutes south.
