Telluride, United States: Guia de viagem
Box-canyon ski town ringed by 13,000ft peaks and waterfalls.
- Melhor época: December-March, June-September
- Orçamento diário: $220 to $550 USD
- Duração ideal: 3 to 5 days
Telluride is a former silver-mining town wedged into a dead-end box canyon, with Colorado's tallest waterfall at one end and Victorian storefronts along the other. A free gondola climbs over the ridge to Mountain Village, which means the ski lifts, the restaurants and your bed are connected without a car. It is remote enough to have stayed small and stubbornly good, which is exactly why people keep coming back.

Como se deslocar
Telluride Regional Airport (TEX) is five minutes away but weather-sensitive; Montrose (MTJ) is 65 miles and far more reliable, with Denver a six-hour drive. Once there you do not need a car: town is nine blocks long, the gondola runs to Mountain Village until midnight, and a free in-town shuttle loops Colorado Avenue.
Segurança
Crime is almost nonexistent. Altitude is the main risk, with town at 8,750ft and Mountain Village higher, so drink water and go easy on alcohol the first night. Backcountry avalanche danger is real in winter, afternoon lightning is a genuine hazard above treeline in summer, and Black Bear Pass has killed inexperienced drivers, so hire a guide for 4x4 passes.
Perguntas frequentes
What is the best time to visit Telluride?
Late January to March has the deepest reliable snow with fewer holiday crowds. July to early September gives wildflowers, open high passes and the big festivals. June can still be snowy on high trails, while April-May and late October are shoulder seasons when many businesses close.
How many days do you need in Telluride?
Three days works for a ski trip or a hiking weekend. Four to five is better in summer, allowing Bridal Veil Falls, an alpine hike, a 4x4 pass and a day just wandering town and riding the gondola at sunset. Add travel time, as getting there is rarely quick.
Is the Telluride gondola really free?
Yes. It connects the historic town with Mountain Village in about 13 minutes, runs roughly 7am to midnight most of the year, and costs nothing for pedestrians, bikes and dogs in designated cabins. It closes for a few weeks in each shoulder season for maintenance.
Is Telluride good for beginners skiing?
Yes, better than its reputation suggests. Mountain Village has excellent wide beginner terrain and a strong ski school, alongside expert chutes off Palmyra Peak for advanced skiers. Lift lines are famously short compared with the I-70 Colorado resorts.
How do you get to Telluride?
Fly to Montrose (MTJ), 65 miles and about 90 minutes away, for the most reliable service, or risk the small Telluride airport, which fogs and snows out. Denver is roughly six hours by car, Grand Junction three. Shuttles run from both Montrose and Telluride airports.
Is Telluride expensive?
Yes, it is one of Colorado's priciest mountain towns, with high-season lodging rates and expensive dining. Costs drop sharply in shoulder seasons, and staying in Lawson Hill, down-valley or Ridgway saves a lot. The free gondola and free town shuttle remove any transport spend once you arrive.
What festivals happen in Telluride?
The town hosts a dense summer calendar, most famously the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in June and the Telluride Film Festival over Labor Day weekend, plus blues, jazz and mountain-film events. Lodging sells out months ahead and prices spike on those weekends, so book early or avoid them deliberately.
