Ubud, Indonesia: Guia de viagem
Bali's green heart: rice terraces, temples and a yoga scene that never sleeps.
- Melhor época: April to October
- Orçamento diário: $35 to $110 USD
- Duração ideal: 3 to 5 days
Ubud sits inland among river gorges and terraced rice fields, and it has spent decades turning Balinese craft and ritual into a place travellers come to slow down. The centre is busy and traffic-clogged, but ten minutes on a scooter puts you on a ridge path with nothing but ducks, palms and offerings on the ground.
Bairros
- Central Ubud: Palace, art market and the main restaurant strip. Convenient, noisy, walkable.
- Penestanan: Ridge above the centre reached by steps, full of villas, cafes and long-stay yoga people.
- Nyuh Kuning: Quiet village south of the Monkey Forest with woodcarvers and a slower rhythm.
- Sayan and Kedewatan: River-gorge side with the luxury resorts and the best valley views.
- Tegallalang: North of town, the famous terraces plus swings, cafes and increasing crowds.
O que fazer
- Campuhan Ridge Walk: Walk the ridge at sunrise before the heat arrives, with rice fields and palms on both sides.
- Dance at Ubud Palace: See a legong or kecak performance in the palace courtyard in the evening.
- Balinese cooking class: Start with a market tour, then cook a full spread of Balinese dishes.
- Tirta Empul springs: Join the purification ritual at the holy water temple, ideally early on a weekday.
Segredos escondidos
- Subak Juwuk Manis path, a short green walk starting behind Jalan Bisma

O que comer
- Babi guling at a warung, best before noon when the pig is fresh
- Bebek betutu, slow-cooked duck in spices, usually ordered a day ahead
- Nasi campur plates for a few dollars in any local warung
- Jamu tonics and smoothie bowls in the Penestanan cafes
Como se deslocar
Ubud's centre is walkable but the footpaths are broken and traffic is heavy. Grab and Gojek work with occasional local restrictions near the market, and scooter rental at around $5 a day is the standard choice for reaching terraces and temples. A driver for a full day of sights costs about $40 to $50.
Segurança
Ubud is very safe for solo travellers, including women. The real risks are scooter accidents on wet roads, the monkeys in the Sacred Forest which will grab sunglasses and bags, and steep unlit paths at night. Carry a torch and keep loose items zipped away near the temple.
Perguntas frequentes
How many days do you need in Ubud?
Three days covers the ridge walk, a temple loop to Tirta Empul and Gunung Kawi, a cooking class and the Tegallalang terraces. Four or five is better if you want a waterfall day, a Mount Batur sunrise trek, or simply time to sit still and use the spas and yoga studios properly.
Is Ubud worth visiting or is it too touristy?
It is busy, and the centre can feel like one long cafe strip, but the surrounding villages still function as working Balinese communities with daily ceremonies. Stay in Penestanan or Nyuh Kuning, move early, and Ubud is still one of the most rewarding places in Southeast Asia.
How do you get from the airport to Ubud?
Denpasar airport is 35km away and takes 60 to 120 minutes depending on traffic. A prepaid taxi or Grab costs roughly $17 to $25 USD, and most hotels arrange a pickup for a similar price. Avoid arriving between 4pm and 7pm when the route through Denpasar crawls.
When is the best time to visit Ubud?
April to October is the dry season, with June to September the most reliable and busiest. The rice terraces are greenest just after planting, roughly February and again around August. November to March brings afternoon downpours, lower prices and lush landscapes if you can work around the rain.
Is Ubud expensive?
Not by Western standards. Guesthouses run $20 to $35 a night, boutique villas with a pool $60 to $120, warung meals $2 to $4 and Western restaurant dinners $10 to $18. Yoga classes cost about $10 and a 60-minute massage $8 to $15. Budget travellers manage on $35 to $45 a day comfortably.
Do you need a scooter in Ubud?
Not for the town itself, but it makes everything easier beyond it. Rental costs about $5 a day, and you need an international permit with a motorcycle endorsement to be insured and to avoid police fines. If you have not ridden before, Bali's traffic is a bad place to learn: hire a driver instead.
Is the Monkey Forest safe to visit?
Yes, with basic care. The macaques are wild and confident, and they take sunglasses, water bottles, phones and anything shiny. Leave loose items in your bag, do not carry food, avoid eye contact and let staff handle any monkey that grabs something. Bites are rare but do get reported each year.
