Getting around

Basel is compact and walkable, and hotel guests get a free BaselCard covering all trams and buses. Trams run constantly and even cross into Germany and France. EuroAirport sits 10 minutes away with separate Swiss and French exits, and trains reach Zurich in under an hour, Bern in 55 minutes and Paris in three hours by TGV.

Safety

Basel is very safe day and night, including for solo female travellers. Watch bags around the station and during Fasnacht carnival crowds. If you swim the Rhine, use a Wickelfisch waterproof bag, enter only at recognised points and exit before the harbour, where cargo traffic makes it dangerous.
