Getting around
Ella is walkable, with tuk tuks for the trailheads and Ravana Falls (negotiate or use the PickMe app where available). The train station sits in the middle of town. To leave, the scenic train runs to Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, and buses head to the south coast.
Safety
Ella is very safe and welcoming to solo travelers. Take care on unfenced viewpoints and wet rocks near waterfalls, use repellent against leeches on forest trails in rainy months, and keep clear of train tracks when photographing the bridge.
