Getting around

Gothenburg has an excellent, easy-to-use tram network that reaches almost everywhere in the city, complemented by buses and ferries to the archipelago, all on one integrated ticket via the Västtrafik app. The compact centre is very walkable and bike-friendly, with a city bike scheme. Ferries to the car-free southern islands leave from Saltholmen, reached directly by tram. The airport is a 30-minute bus ride from the centre.

Safety

Gothenburg is a very safe, clean and well-organised city, and violent crime rarely affects visitors. Use normal precautions against occasional pickpocketing in crowded tourist areas, around Nordstan shopping centre and at the central station, especially at night. The main things to plan for are the high prices, the changeable, often wet coastal weather, and dressing in warm layers - and taking care on slippery cobbles and icy streets in winter.
