Getting around

Helsinki's trams, metro, buses and ferries run on one ticket and the centre is very walkable. The Suomenlinna ferry uses the same public-transport ticket. Fast ferries cross to Tallinn in about two hours, making a day trip across the Gulf of Finland easy.

Safety

Helsinki is calm, orderly and very safe, with low crime. The main considerations are the high cost of eating and drinking out, and the climate, long, cold, dark winters versus bright summer nights, so pack and plan for the season you visit.
