Getting around
Jeddah is spread out and car-oriented, so ride apps (Uber, Careem) are the easiest way around and are cheap. Al-Balad and the corniche are best explored on foot once you're there, but you'll ride between districts. Rent a car or join a dive operator's transfer for Obhur's beaches and reefs. Taxis exist but apps are simpler. Allow for traffic and brief prayer-time closures at shops and some sites.
Safety
Jeddah is safe with low crime and is considered Saudi Arabia's most relaxed major city, though conservative norms still apply. Dress modestly: women should cover shoulders and knees (abaya optional but common), men should avoid shorts in public. Alcohol is strictly illegal. Non-Muslims cannot enter Mecca or Medina, and roads have clear checkpoints, so respect the restrictions. The sea is the main physical risk, so dive within limits and heed boat guidance. Solo female travel is increasingly common with modest dress.
