Day 1, Get oriented

Base: Lake George Village, The walkable southern hub with the beach, steamboat dock, restaurants, and family attractions.

Morning: Cruise the lake on a historic steamboat. The Minne-Ha-Ha paddlewheeler and the Mohican have sailed Lake George for over a century. The full-lake cruise to the Narrows is the classic experience.

Afternoon: Explore Lake George Village, The walkable southern hub with the beach, steamboat dock, restaurants, and family attractions.

Evening: Hike Prospect Mountain. Drive the veterans memorial highway or hike to the 2,030-foot summit for a 100-mile view over the lake and the Adirondacks.

Day 2, Go deeper

Base: Bolton Landing, A quieter, upscale lakeside town 15 minutes north with boutiques and The Sagamore resort.

Morning: Explore Fort William Henry. A reconstructed 1755 fort with musket demonstrations and French and Indian War history on the lake's southern shore.

Evening: Rent a boat and island-hop. Lake George has over 170 islands, many with public day-use sites. Rent a pontoon or kayak and find your own private beach.

Day 3, Hidden side

Base: Hague and the North, The wilder northern stretch, gateway to island camping and the Narrows.

Morning: Swim at Million Dollar Beach. The village's sandy public beach with lifeguards, boat launches, and mountain views in every direction.

Evening: Shelving Rock Falls, an easy forest walk to a waterfall you can slide down. A local favourite most visitors miss, worth the detour.

Getting around

A car is essential for exploring beyond the village. The village itself is walkable, and the Lake George trolley runs between the village and outlets in summer. Steamboats and rental boats are the best way to see the lake.

Safety

Very safe and family-oriented. Main cautions are cold water in early summer, afternoon thunderstorms on the lake, and black bears if camping on islands. Store food properly.
