Getting around
The old town is small and entirely walkable, and an extensive tram network covers Plagwitz, the lakes and the monument for a few euros a ride. The S-Bahn tunnel links the main station to the south quickly. Leipzig/Halle Airport is 15 minutes by train, and Berlin is 75 minutes by ICE, Dresden about 70 minutes.
Safety
Leipzig is a safe city with normal urban precautions. Late-night areas around Eisenbahnstrasse and parts of Connewitz occasionally see friction, so stick to busy streets after dark. Watch for pickpockets at the main station and during festivals. Trams move quietly, so check before crossing tracks, and always validate your ticket to avoid fines.
