Getting around

Cycle. Malmö is flat, compact and built for bikes, with hire schemes everywhere. Walking works for the old town, and city buses cover the rest. Trains from Malmö C and Triangeln reach Copenhagen Airport in 20 minutes and central Copenhagen in 35. Lund is 12 minutes; Stockholm is four and a half hours by high-speed train.

Safety

Malmö's reputation is worse than the reality for visitors: gang-related incidents are concentrated in a few peripheral residential areas that tourists never see. The centre, Möllevången and Västra Hamnen are safe, though pickpocketing happens around Möllevångstorget and the stations at night. Bike theft is very common, so lock up properly. Carry ID for cross-border trains.
