Getting around
Melbourne's trams are iconic and the City Circle and CBD trams are free within the Free Tram Zone. Beyond it, use a Myki card across trams, trains, and buses. The CBD and inner suburbs are walkable and bike-friendly. Trains reach the airport via SkyBus. For the Great Ocean Road, a rental car or organised tour is essential.
Safety
Melbourne is very safe with a relaxed feel. Take normal city precautions late at night around nightlife districts and some train lines. The weather is famously changeable, so carry layers and a rain jacket year-round. Sun protection is essential in summer, when UV is intense.
