Getting around
The falls area on the Canadian side is walkable, with the WEGO bus and an incline railway connecting viewpoints, hotels and Clifton Hill. To reach Niagara-on-the-Lake's wineries or cross to the US side, a car, taxi or organised tour is easiest. Many visitors come as a day trip from Toronto (about 1.5 hours) by car, tour or train/bus. If crossing the border, carry your passport and allow time for the bridge.
Safety
Niagara Falls is a very safe, family-friendly destination, with the main risks being the obvious ones around fast-moving water, always stay behind barriers and never climb railings near the gorge. Expect heavy mist on the boat tours (ponchos are provided) and slippery surfaces. Clifton Hill is touristy but safe; apply normal caution at night. If crossing between Canada and the US, bring your passport and check border requirements.
