Getting around

You will want a car; Raleigh is spread out and Durham and Chapel Hill are 25 to 40 minutes away. Downtown itself is walkable and the free R-LINE circulator loops the core. Raleigh-Durham International Airport sits 20 minutes west of both cities, roughly $30 by rideshare. Parking downtown is cheap and free on evenings and weekends in most decks.

Safety

Raleigh is one of the safer large Southern cities and downtown, Glenwood South and the museum district are comfortable day and night, with routine caution around bar-close crowds. Summer is hot and very humid with afternoon thunderstorms, so plan outdoor time for morning and carry water. Ticks and mosquitoes are real on greenway and park trails, so use repellent from spring through autumn.
