Getting around

Central Skopje is walkable, with the bazaar, square and riverside all close together. Taxis are very cheap and metered; ride apps also work. For Matka Canyon and Mount Vodno you'll want a taxi or local bus, and for Ohrid there are frequent intercity buses or a hired driver.

Safety

Skopje is safe with low crime and friendly locals. Standard precautions against pickpocketing in the bazaar and busy areas apply. Air quality can be poor in winter due to smog, so those sensitive may prefer warmer months. Tap water is safe.
