Getting around

From San Diego, take the Blue Line trolley to San Ysidro and walk across at PedEast or PedWest, or drive and park on the US side. Inside TJ, use Uber or route taxis; distances between Zona Centro, Zona Río and Playas are too far to walk. The Cross Border Xpress bridge links Tijuana airport directly to San Diego for ticketed flyers.

Safety

Stick to the tourist and business zones: Centro, Zona Río, Playas and the gastronomic district are heavily visited and generally fine by day and early evening. Use Uber rather than hailing taxis, don't flash cash or phones, and avoid unfamiliar colonias, especially after dark. Carry your passport; you'll need it to re-enter the US. Check border wait times online before crossing back.
