Getting around

Central Tirana is compact and easily walked, with most sights around Skanderbeg Square and Blloku. The city has no metro; buses are cheap but informal. Taxis and the Patoko/Speed Taxi apps are affordable. The Dajti Express cable car is reached by a short taxi ride. For day trips to Krujë, Berat, or the coast, use intercity furgon minibuses or a rental car.

Safety

Tirana is safe and friendly, with low crime. Traffic and chaotic driving are the main hazard, so take care crossing roads. Use app-based taxis or agree fares first. Pavements and infrastructure can be uneven. Albanians are exceptionally hospitable, and English is widely spoken among the young.
