Getting around

Turin's grand grid centre is very walkable, with porticoes sheltering much of the way. A modern driverless metro plus trams and buses (GTT) cover the wider city cheaply, and the airport links by train or bus in about 30 minutes. Fast trains reach Milan in around an hour, and a day pass is good value for getting around.

Safety

Turin is generally safe and comfortable for solo travellers including women. Violent crime is rare; the main cautions are pickpocketing around Porta Nuova station and busy markets, and some areas near the station and Aurora/Barriera di Milano that feel rougher at night. Stick to busy, well-lit central streets after dark and you'll be fine.
