Getting around

Tuk-tuks and ride-hailing (Loca app) cover longer hops to Pha That Luang or Buddha Park; agree tuk-tuk fares first. Bicycles are a pleasant way to explore the flat city, and rentals are cheap and widely available.

Safety

Vientiane is calm and very safe, one of the most relaxed capitals in Asia and comfortable for solo travellers including women. Violent crime is rare; the main issues are occasional petty theft and tuk-tuk overcharging, so agree fares first. Cross roads carefully as traffic can be unpredictable, drink bottled water, and use insect repellent during the wetter months.
