Phu Quoc International Airport receives direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City (1 hour), Hanoi and several regional hubs, and many nationalities get a 30-day visa exemption for the island specifically. Fast ferries run from Rach Gia and Ha Tien. On the island, rent a scooter, use Grab in the main towns, or hire a car with driver for a full-day loop, distances are longer than they look.
Safety
Phu Quoc is safe, with petty theft on beaches the main risk, so don't leave bags unattended. Scooter accidents are the biggest real danger: roads are improving but sandy and fast, so wear a helmet and check your travel insurance covers riding. Swim between flags and beware strong currents in the rainy season. Jellyfish appear at times, and sun protection is essential this close to the equator.
Frequently asked questions
Is Phu Quoc worth visiting?

How many days do you need in Phu Quoc?
Four to five. One or two for beach and sunset, one for the An Thoi island-hopping boat, one for the cable car and southern beaches, and one for the north's fishing villages, waterfalls and pepper farms.
When is the best time to visit Phu Quoc?
November to March, the dry season, with calm seas, clear water and temperatures around 27-30C. The rainy season runs May to October with heavy afternoon downpours, choppier boat trips and much lower prices.
Do you need a visa for Phu Quoc?
Many nationalities can enter Phu Quoc visa-free for up to 30 days if they fly or sail directly to the island and stay only there. If you continue to mainland Vietnam, you need a standard visa or e-visa, so check current rules before booking.
