Getting around

Bocas Town is small and walkable, though many visitors rent bicycles to explore Isla Colon. The real transport is by water: water taxis run constantly between the main islands for a few dollars, while private boat charters and tour operators reach the more remote beaches and snorkelling spots. The airport is on Isla Colon with flights from Panama City; the overland route from Costa Rica involves a boat across the border.

Safety

Bocas is generally safe and tourist-friendly, with a relaxed Caribbean vibe. Use standard precautions: keep valuables secure on boats and beaches, avoid unlit areas late at night in town, and be careful with reef-safe sunscreen to protect the fragile coral. Strong currents can exist at some surf beaches, so check conditions before swimming. Tap water is best avoided.
