Getting around
Brno has a small airport but most arrivals come by train: 2.5 hours from Prague, 90 minutes from Vienna and about 2 hours from Bratislava. The centre is entirely walkable, and an excellent tram and trolleybus network covers everything beyond it with cheap short-hop tickets. Regional trains reach the Moravian wine towns in under an hour, so a car is rarely necessary.
Safety
Brno is safe and low-crime, with pickpocketing rare and mostly limited to the main station area, which feels rough late at night. Trams move fast and quietly, so check both ways on shared streets. Student nightlife is boisterous but good-natured. Winter pavements ice over, and the old town cobbles are hard going with wheels or limited mobility.
