Getting around

Most travellers reach Mostar by bus from Sarajevo (2.5 hours), Dubrovnik (3 hours) or Split (3.5 hours), or on the scenic Sarajevo train that takes about two hours. The old town is small and walkable but the cobbles are slick and steep. Day trips to Kravice, Blagaj and Počitelj are easiest by organised tour or hired driver, since public transport is sparse.

Safety

Mostar is safe for visitors, with petty theft rare and locals welcoming. The polished bazaar stones become dangerously slippery in rain, and the bridge itself is steep. Landmines remain in rural areas of Herzegovina, so stay on marked paths and never enter fenced or overgrown land. Abandoned war ruins are unsecured. Summer heat in the valley regularly exceeds 35C.
