Getting around

The Hotel Zone is served by frequent, cheap R1/R2 buses running its full length. Taxis are plentiful but agree fares first, as they're unmetered. Ferries to Isla Mujeres leave from Puerto Juárez. For Chichén Itzá, cenotes, and Tulum, organised tours or a rental car are easiest. The ADO bus network connects Cancún to the wider Yucatán comfortably.

Safety

The tourist areas of Cancún are heavily policed and generally safe. Use official taxis or apps, agree fares in advance, and watch belongings in nightlife areas. Respect ocean flags, as currents and undertow can be dangerous. Stay hydrated and use reef-safe sunscreen. Drink bottled water.
