Getting around
Fuerteventura Airport sits just south of Puerto del Rosario with direct flights from most of Europe. The island is long, roughly 100 kilometres north to south, and public buses link the main resorts on a decent but slow schedule. A rental car makes far more sense and is among Europe's cheapest. Note that the Cofete track is unpaved and excluded by most rental insurance, so take an authorised 4x4 tour instead. Ferries run from Corralejo to Lanzarote and Lobos.
Safety
Crime is low and the main hazards are natural. The near-constant wind hides a strong sun, so sunburn and dehydration are the most common problems. Atlantic beaches on the west coast, including Cofete, have severe rip currents and no lifeguards, so swim only where flags and patrols exist. Wear shoes on volcanic rock, respect the fragile dune vegetation, and never attempt the Cofete road in a standard hire car.
