Getting around
Granada's centre is flat, compact and best explored on foot. Horse-drawn carriages are a tourist fixture but also a practical way to see the city. Taxis are cheap and easy to flag. Boats to the islets leave from the main lakefront dock. Buses and shuttles connect Granada to Managua, Leon and Rivas. For Mombacho, tours or a taxi from town are the easiest options.
Safety
Granada is relaxed and generally safe for visitors with normal precautions: watch bags in the central plaza, use taxis at night and avoid unlit side streets. The heat is intense, so drink plenty of water and pace yourself. Lake swimming is fine near town but avoid areas with boat traffic. Check current travel advice before visiting Nicaragua.
