Getting around
The centre is pedestrian-only and walked end to end in 20 minutes, though 'flat' doesn't exist here, so wear real shoes. Taxis are cheap for hills like Pipila and Valenciana. The funicular saves the steepest climb. León airport (BJX) is 30 minutes away by shuttle. Buses connect to San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City.
Safety
Guanajuato city is considered one of Mexico's safer destinations and the tourist centre feels relaxed day and night. Take normal precautions in quiet alleys late at night and use registered taxis. The physical risks dominate: steep uneven steps, thin air at 2,000m altitude, and sun. Arrive hydrated and pace yourself on the climbs.
