Hidden gems
- Thean Hou Temple at dusk - lantern-lit, hilltop, almost no tourists.
- Kwai Chai Hong, a restored Chinatown laneway full of murals and cafés.
- Madras Lane hawker stalls behind Petaling Street for the best laksa.
- REXKL, a former cinema turned book-and-food hall, great rainy-afternoon escape.
Getting around
Grab (the local Uber) is cheap and the easiest way around - traffic makes walking long distances brutal in the heat. The LRT/MRT and monorail are clean and link the main districts. The KLIA Ekspres train gets you from the airport to the centre in 30 minutes.
Safety
KL is one of the safer big cities in the region. Watch for occasional bag-snatching on quiet streets and traffic that doesn't always yield. It's a Muslim-majority city - dress modestly at mosques and Batu Caves (sarongs provided).
