Getting around
Trains from London Paddington and Marylebone take about an hour, and the Oxford Tube coach runs 24 hours from Victoria. The centre is small enough to cross on foot in 20 minutes and driving is actively discouraged, so use the Park and Ride if arriving by car. Buses cover Cowley and Summertown, and bike hire is genuinely the local option.
Safety
Oxford is safe, with bike theft the main problem and some late-night rowdiness around Cowley Road at weekends. Colleges are private property: respect closed gates, keep off the lawns, and note that many shut entirely in late April to June for exams. Cobbles and spiral tower stairs are hard going for limited mobility. Book Christ Church and Bodleian tours well ahead in summer.
