Getting around
Bath is best walked; the centre is flat and everything within about 20 minutes, though the crescents involve a gentle climb. Buses cover the hills and Prior Park, and the train station is a five-minute walk from the abbey with direct services to London Paddington in about 90 minutes and Bristol in 15. Driving is discouraged thanks to a clean-air zone and expensive parking.
Safety
Bath is a very safe, affluent small city that's comfortable for solo travellers including women, with busy central streets into the evening. Usual caution applies around late-night pub crowds on Friday and Saturday. Pavements are steep and uneven in places, so wear grippy shoes in wet weather.
