Getting around

Centre is walkable. You'll want a rental car for day trips - Glenorchy, Arrowtown, Wanaka all need wheels. The airport is 10 minutes from town. Public buses cover the basics but won't get you to the good stuff.

Safety

Extremely safe. The real risks are alpine - weather changes fast, always check Met Service before tramping, and book Milford with a reputable operator if it's been raining (cancellations happen).
