Getting around

Rotterdam is flat, walkable and superbly cycle-friendly, with bike rental everywhere. A modern metro, tram and bus network (RET) covers the city efficiently, and water taxis and ferries cross the Maas. The airport links to the centre by bus in about 20 minutes, while trains reach Amsterdam, The Hague and Delft in minutes, making it a great base.

Safety

Rotterdam is generally safe and comfortable for solo travellers including women. Violent crime is rare; the main cautions are pickpocketing around the central station and busy areas, watching for fast-moving cyclists and trams, and some areas around the station and the south that feel quieter at night. Use normal city sense and you'll be fine.
