Getting around
Downtown, Pike Place and Seattle Center are walkable, and the Link light rail connects the airport to downtown and Capitol Hill cheaply. Buses, the streetcar and the monorail fill in the gaps, and an ORCA card or contactless tap covers transit. Ferries leave from the downtown waterfront. Uber and Lyft are everywhere. A car helps for Mount Rainier and the Olympic Peninsula.
Safety
Seattle is generally safe in the central and residential neighbourhoods visitors frequent. There's visible homelessness in parts of downtown and near the market, and some areas feel rougher at night, so use normal city awareness. The weather is famously wet and grey from autumn to spring; pack a rain layer and waterproof shoes rather than an umbrella.
