Getting around

You'll want a car: Tucson sprawls and the best sights sit 20 to 45 minutes apart. The Sun Link streetcar links downtown, Fourth Avenue and the University of Arizona for $1.75 and covers the walkable core. Tucson International Airport is 20 minutes south of downtown, roughly $25 to $35 by rideshare. Phoenix Sky Harbor is two hours north with a shuttle service.

Safety

Tucson is a relaxed city and downtown, the foothills and university areas are comfortable. The genuine risks here are environmental: summer heat above 40C, dehydration on trails, monsoon flash floods in washes from July to September, and rattlesnakes on desert paths. Carry far more water than you think you need and hike early.
