Getting around
Bergen's centre is entirely walkable and compact. The Fløibanen funicular and city buses are efficient for hills and outer areas. For fjord day trips, the Norway in a Nutshell route combines train, boat, and bus and is best booked ahead. The airport is 20 minutes by light rail (Bybanen) or bus.
Safety
Bergen is extremely safe, with low crime and a welcoming atmosphere. The main hazards are weather and terrain: mountain hikes require proper footwear and layered clothing, and fjord boat decks can be slippery. Weather changes fast, so pack a waterproof shell even on sunny days.
