- Honeymoon Island's Osprey Trail, a virgin slash pine forest with nesting raptors

- Frenchy's original tiny cafe for a grouper sandwich away from the strip
Getting around
Fly into Tampa (TPA, 45 minutes) or the smaller St. Pete-Clearwater (PIE, 20 minutes). The Jolley Trolley links the beach, Sand Key and Dunedin cheaply, and Beach Walk makes the strip fully walkable. A car helps for day trips but beach parking is expensive ($3 to $5 an hour) and the causeway jams on weekend afternoons.
Safety
Clearwater is safe and heavily patrolled, including the beach at night. Watch the flag system for rip currents, and check red tide reports before travelling, as algal blooms occasionally cause respiratory irritation and fish kills. Summer brings daily lightning storms, fierce UV and hurricane risk from June to November.
