Getting around

The old town is car-free and walkable; bicycles are the local way to reach the beach and paddies and most hotels lend them free. Grab bikes and taxis are cheap for longer trips, and a booked driver handles the My Son or Da Nang day trips.

Safety

Hoi An is very safe and relaxed, with petty theft the only minor concern. Traffic is calmer than the big cities but still watch crossing. Floods can hit the riverside old town in the October-November rainy season. Drink bottled water and ease into the heat.
