Getting around

Islamabad International Airport is 25km west; the metro bus and taxis reach the centre in 40 to 60 minutes. In the city, Careem and InDrive are the standard apps and very cheap; the metro bus links Islamabad to Rawalpindi. For the north, PIA and Airblue fly to Gilgit and Skardu when weather allows; the Karakoram Highway runs year-round with delays. Many nationalities now get Pakistan e-visas online.

Safety

Islamabad is Pakistan's safest major city, with a visible security presence. Check your government's current travel advice before planning, and register with your embassy. Respect local customs: dress modestly, ask before photographing people, and avoid mosques at prayer times unless invited. For northern areas, check road and permit conditions, and always travel with local advice on weather and security.
